Larry Hughes - Fantasy BasketballWire to Wire aims to be your waiver wire resource for all of your fantasy basketball needs. It will dive into playing time trends, injury replacements, and even an occasional category specialist—all of which can be found on a typical waiver wire within your fantasy league at any given time.

With the All-Star break right around the corner, a few teams within the Association cannot wait for it to get here thanks to several big injuries throughout the league.  In fact, we’ve already had an All-Star game replacement as Kevin Garnett’s abdominal injury has opened the door for Detroit’s Rasheed Wallace to take part in the festivities.  While he hopes the Western Conference puts Dirk Nowitzki opposite him on gameday, fantasy owners will be left to fill any void which they may have over the next few days.  Below, you’ll see plenty of options for your backcourt, with a surprise mention for a second-half frontcourt presence.  Could a certain big man ride off into the Sun-set with one last ring?  No pun intended, of course…

In what will likely be the biggest move of this NBA season, the Los Angeles Lakers have made a deal to bolster their frontcourt.  Not only does this help the team, as Andrew Bynum is still on the shelf, it opens up a ton of room for someone to step up on the Grizzlies.  Could we possibly see some nice numbers from a former second-overall selection?  This week’s edition of Wire to Wire seems to think so.

Chris Webber - Fantasy Basketball????...Oh…We’re Half Way There….????

Almost as a little addition to yesterday’s Wire to Wire, I wanted to add two new names that you fantasy folks may want to keep an eye on: Chris Webber and Earl Boykins.

Webber has officially signed with the Golden State Warriors, despite many people still wondering exactly “why.”  While Webber is undoubtedly older, slower and in all-around worse shape than he was a year ago when he gallivanted around Detroit, Golden State seems to be a breading ground for fantasy relevance.  As of now, I think C-Webb will have more of a negative impact on the fantasy value of others (see Biedrins, Andris and Harrington, Al) - but this doesn’t mean he should be counted out.  Don Nelson may make this thing work!

If you have followed this column from the beginning, you know that I am a sucker for big men and point guards.  Last week, I felt that I had shorted the readers a bit, recommending a slew of ‘tweener types, like Ryan Gomes, Marko Jaric and the like.  Well, with Jaric deciding to put up near triple-doubles and then following those games up with next to nothing, I’m going back to my old ways.  Injuries in Cleveland as well as a possible big-named trade in New Jersey pave the way for this week’s edition of WtW.  Enjoy.

The Dropping Dimes crew has been a big fan of Shootin’ Steve Novak since his days at Marquette.  We had some lofty expectations for the gunner coming into last season, but for some reason or another (cough, defense), things never seemed to unfold.

Well, with last night’s season high of 10 (ten!) points, I have officially decided to start the Steve Novak Watch for the remainder of this season.  Check back early and often for updates.  Okay, maybe not often as he seems to only play about once a month.  Maybe this is the start of a new era, but only time will tell…

I was fortunate enough to be about five rows back at last night’s Cavaliers game as they took on the Wizards.  While the game was a blowout, this meant we were handed a lot of Damon Jones

If you do one thing today, make sure it is a search for pictures from last night’s game as you’ll get to see Damon Jones’ new haircut.  While he can be seen here giving Nick Young the business, I’ll try to find a better angle.  It’s a sight to be seen.

With that said, someone tell me that Damon’s day job doesn’t involve playing the character Beetlejuice on the Howard Stern show…

Photographic proof after le jump…

Another week, and some more big-name injuries to tend to in the fantasy basketball world.  As if Andrew Bynum wasn’t enough, the Lakers are now going to be without Trevor Ariza.  The Nuggets are now contending with the loss of another forward, the Pacers may be missing an All-Star for the rest of the season, and we may be seeing a long-term answer at the starting off-guard for the Bulls.  With all of this having fantasy implications, let’s dig into this week’s edition of Wire to Wire.
